On the heels of our last post showing off a variety of minimalistic posters, here is a nice tutorial from Abduzeedo on how to create a design based on the amazing posters by Simon Page. Simon Page designed a series of posters celebrating the 2009 International Year of Astronomy which have become very popular and which you can now purchase. He has also expanded upon the collection and added astronomy based posters for 2010.

So I will show you how to create a minimalistic design in Photoshop playing with stock photos, blend modes and filters. We will also use a paper texture to give a nice retro feel to our design.

Step 1

Open Photoshop and create a new document. I’m using for this tutorial 900×1440 pixels for the size. Fill the background layer with black and then go to Edit>Transform>Scale. Resize the background layer like the image below.

Read the rest of the tutorial by checking out the Abduzeedo website and trying it out for yourself. If you design a poster using this tutorial send us a link in the comments so we can check it out!
